Wilson Leads Randolph 3 up After First 18 in Met Am Finals

GREENWICH, CONN. (August 4, 2013)- It's been a dramatic morning here at The Stanwich Club in Greenwich, Conn. for the first 18 holes of the 111th Met Amateur final round. Panther Valley's Pat Wilson got off to an early lead, winning the first hole right out of the gate and continuing to improve on that lead over Trevor Randolph of Arcola. Wilson was hitting sure shots and was able to read Stanwich's challenging greens pretty accurately throughout the front nine. After halving the third hole, Wilson really took charge and won holes four through eight, putting him at a 7 up lead over Randolph after 9 holes.

However, on the back 9 Randolph picked his game up a notch and began to give Wilson a run for his money. Randolph won the 10th hole with a birdie, and went on to win the 11th as well, getting Wilson's lead down to 5 holes. Randolph continued to improve his short game and putting throughout the back 9, and made a birdie on the par-3 13th hole to win him yet another hole. He went on to win 14 and 15, at which point Wilson's lead dwindled to 2 up. Wilson made a great birdie on the par 5 17th to give him another hole. The 18th green was tricky for both players, but they each made par to half the final hole of the morning.

After the first 18 holes of the 36 hole final match, Pat Wilson is 3 up over Trevor Randolph. The afternoon round should promise some close action if both plyers continue to challenge each other the way that they did on the back 9 this morning.
