18 Players Qualify at Pine Hollow
EAST NORWICH (July 23, 2013) - A field of 130 players competed for 13 qualifying spots plus ties today at the 98th Met Open sectional qualifying round at Pine Hollow Country Club in East Norwich, N.Y. The Met Open will be played August 20-22 at Old Westbury Golf and Country Club in Old Westbury, N.Y.

Former MGA/MetLife Boys Champion Sunny Kim of Bethpage fired the low round of the day with a 5-under 66. Kim also finished as the 2nd alternate at U.S. Open sectional qualifying in June at Old Oaks and Century.
Under par rounds were at a premium today and the other three were shot by amateurs. Stephen Silverstein of Lake Success, Joseph Giannuzzi of Indian Hills and Ryan Hom of Bethpage each shot 1-under 70s finishing tied for second four shots behind Kim.
Just a stroke behind them with the six even par 71s on the day were Matthew J. Guyton of Rockaway Hunting, Scott Anderson of Laurel Links, Colin McConchie of Baltusrol, amateur Matthew Hirsh of Woodmere, Tom Withee of Hempstead, and Abbie Valentine of Bethpage.
Rounding out the qualifiers all with 1-over par 72s were the following players; amateur David Weisfieldof Fenway, amateur Bradley Rock, Jr. of Wheatley Hills, Jantzen Vargas of Port Jefferson, Brian Mackey of White Beeches, Fred Blumenstock of Pine Ridge, amateur Alan Specht of Wheatley Hills,Mike Midgette of Hamlet Wind and Heath Wassem of Fenway.
It will be seven amateurs and 11 professionals that will advance from this sectional qualifying round. They will go to Old Westbury for a 54-hole Stroke Play Championship event that will have the field cut after 36 holes.
