Thompson Leads 13 Ike Qualifiers from The Vineyards
RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (May 14, 2018) – Sectional qualifying for the 63rd Ike MGA Stroke Play Championship Presented by Callaway began on Monday at The Vineyards Golf Club. A total of 13 players qualified from a starting field of 56, led by Chris Thompson of Garden City Golf Club.

The medalist shot a 4-under 66 to lead the field heading into the MGA’s first major of the year, which will be held at Meadow Brook Country Club in Jericho, N.Y., June 25-26.
Just one shot back of the medalist was Raymond Weinmann of MGA eClub-Long Island at 3-under 67.
Jay Card of Gardiners Bay Country Club and Brian Brown of Southward Ho came in at 2-under 68, while Robert Montagnino of Indian Hills and Andre Chi of MGA eClub-Long Island followed at 1-under 69.
Colin Dolph of North Hempstead came in at even-par, while Jason Doppelt of Fresh Meadow, Jonathan Emerson of Bethpage, Patrick Montagnino of Indian Hills, Charlie Mitchell of Fresh Meadow, Jon Sherman of Port Jefferson and Don Enga of Cherry Valley grabbed the final qualifying positions at 1-over 71.
The Vineyards Golf Club played to a par 70. Winds blew lightly throughout the day. The five par-3 holes gave the players a variety of length, direction and difficulty. Secondary roughs and fescue grasses added to the level of difficulty.
The MGA will conduct five additional qualifiers to complete the field for the Ike Championship, with the next two taking place May 15th at Panther Valley Golf and Country Club in Allamauchy, N.J., and May 21st at Deal Golf and Country Club in Deal, N.J.
