MGA Among USGA's New Allied Golf Associations

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (January 10, 2018) – The Metropolitan Golf Association is pleased to have entered a new relationship with the United States Golf Association, standing among fifty-nine regional golf associations throughout the country named as new Allied Golf Associations (AGAs). The partnership aims to enhance the golfer experience at the state and local levels in the United States.

“The MGA is thrilled and privileged to embark on this new partnership with the USGA to continue to strengthen the delivery of services to golfers, clubs and the golfing community throughout the New York Metropolitan region and beyond,” said MGA Executive Director Brian R. Mahoney. “This partnership will build upon a more than 100-year history of the MGA and USGA working closely together to serve the best interests for the game of golf.”

As an AGA, the MGA will continue to administer the USGA Handicap and Course Rating Systems within its defined geographic areas. Additionally, it will serve as the region’s primary resource for USGA services such as championship qualifiers, governance, golf facility support, and programs that help grow and improve the long-term health of the game.

“Regional golf associations are the lifeblood of the golf community and the USGA,” said Mike Davis, USGA CEO. “We felt that now was the best time to formalize this new alliance, in the spirit of working together on grassroots programs, improving how we can serve golfers and providing a healthy foundation from which the entire golf community can grow.”

AGAs were identified through a nearly year-long process that encouraged collaboration among existing golf organizations within each state and region. The alliance marks the latest step by the USGA to more deeply engage the local and regional golf community.
