Lowe takes WMGA/MGA Women's Met Am at Mountain Ridge
WEST CALDWELL, N.J. (July 6, 2017) – Alix Lowe of Colonial Springs battled through a strong starting field of 65 competitors at Mountain Ridge Country Club to win the 16th WMGA/MGA Women’s Met Amateur Championship by one stroke after carding a round of 2-over 75.

Lowe, a rising junior at Towson, credited stellar play off the tee as the key to her round. “I had a wedge in on every approach shot, the furthest shot I had in was on a par 3, in which I had a 160 yard shot,” the champion said. When asked how it feels to win she exclaimed, “It’s a great accomplishment. I definitely wanted a win for the summer and this is a good tournament to win.”
Highlighting Lowe’s round was a stretch of three-consecutive birdies on Nos. 6-8, as she took advantage of the par-five 6th and 8th holes.
The Lowe family has had much to celebrate this summer as Alix also recently qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur. Her brother Matt added on to the success when he captured the Ike Championship in late June.
Noelle Maertz, who plays as a WMGA Independent member, finished as runner-up with a score of 3-over 76. Maertz is a former member of the Wagner College women’s golf team.
Current Ithaca Bomber Peyton Greco was the low net winner after recording a net 67.
Mountain Ridge Country Club played to a par 73 at 5,804 yards.
The WMGA/MGA Women’s Met Amateur Championship is conducted over 18 holes of stroke play and the trophy is award to the low gross winner. The Championship is open to all Women Amateurs residing in the WMGA/MGA territory with a maximum USGA Handicap Index of 12.0 according to the July 1, 2017 handicap revision.
The MGA and WMGA partnered together in 2012 to co-administer the event, which has grown in popularity since its inception in 2002, becoming one of the premier amateur women’s events in the Met Area. For more information on the event, please visit www.wmga.com.
