MGA Caddie Academies Draw 700 Students
Elmsford, N.Y. (April 19, 2005) - Caddies are an essential part of the game of golf, and the MGA prides itself on continuing to educate young men and women on the benefits of caddying.
The Metropolitan Golf Association Foundation held its annual series of Caddie Academies at seven Met Area golf clubs from April 4th through April 19th. More than 700 youngsters were instructed by MGA Staff and local Caddie Masters, who volunteered their time on the fundamentals of caddying. The afternoon included classroom instruction, on course training and refreshments and is free of charge. Students received certificates of completion which they can use to secure caddie positions at area clubs.
This year’s seminars were held in New Jersey at Raritan Valley CC in Bridgewater, Hackensack GC in Oradell and Manasquan River in Brielle. In Long Island seminars were held at Hempstead CC in Hempstead and the Tam O’ Shanter Club in Brookville. Westchester residents attended seminars at Fenway GC in Scarsdale, and Westchester CC in Harrison (pictured above), while Wee Burn CC in Darien hosted the Connecticut session.
The ever-increasing popularity of Caddie Academies is directly attributed to the involvement of MGA Member Clubs, Junior Committee members and the participation of our local Caddie Masters. We are most appreciative of their efforts for their contributions of time, knowledge and talent.
