Road to Erin Hills Begins with Local Qualifying
ELMSFORD, N.Y. (May 5, 2017) -- With 9,485 entries having been accepted for the 2017 U.S. Open Championship, the road to the Erin Hills now begins with local qualifying. A total of 114 local qualifiers will be conducted in 44 states and Canada between May 2-18, as competitors look to make their first step toward competing in the first U.S. Open held in the state of Wisconsin, June 15-18.
The MGA will conduct four local qualifying rounds throughout the Met Area, between May 8-16, with the number of qualifying positions at each site determined by the size of the field. Players then advance to sectional qualifying rounds, which are played over 36 holes. Sectional qualifying begins May 22 in Japan and continues May 29 in England. Then, on June 5, sectionals will take place at 10 sites across the United States, including the MGA's site at Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit, N.J.
