Miller, McCormick taking on Asian Tour Q-School

UPDATE (January 7, 2017) - While Mike Miller and Ryan McCormick began the final round of the Asian Tour's Section B Qualifying School in different situations, both successfully punched their tickets to next week's Final Stage.

With the top 26 finishers (and ties) earning advancing positions from Windsor Park Golf Club in Bangkok, Thailand, Miller most likely needed a sub-par score as he began the final round tied for 32nd. Miller more than delivered on the call, scorching the course with a bogey-free round of 10-under 62. The score—a new course record—vaulted Miller up the leaderboard into a tie for fifth at 14-under 274 at day's end. Miller carded matching 31s on his two nines, highlighted by an eagle on the par-five fourth and three consecutive birdies on Nos. 16-18.

Meanwhile, McCormick—having posted scores of 70-69-66 over the first three rounds—entered the final round tied for third and just two shots off the leader. McCormick continued his stellar play in the final round, tallying a 5-under 67 for his second straight bogey free round. McCormick tallied just two bogeys for the week at Windsor Park, finishing tied for second at 16-under 272.

The Final Stage of Asian Tour Qualifying School takes place January 11-14 at Suvarnabhumi Golf & Country Club in Bangkok.

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (January 6, 2017) - A new year brought on a new challenge for a pair of former MGA champions, as Mike Miller and Ryan McCormick set sights on qualifying for the Asian Tour. The two are competing in the Tour's Section B Qualifying School, January 4-7, at Windsor Park Golf Club in Bangkok, Thailand.

Through three rounds of play, McCormick has placed himself in contention for medalist honors by improving his score each day. The 2012 Met Amateur champion began with rounds of 70 and 69 before vaulting himself up the leaderboard with a bogey-free 6-under 66 in the third round. The Middletown, N.J., native sits tied for third, just two strokes behind the leader, Youngjea Byun of Korea, and has been playing steadily throughout the event, carding just two bogeys over 54 holes.

While two-time MGA Player of the Year Miller opened with a 3-over 75, the Brewster, N.Y., native bounced back with scores of 70 and 67 in the next two rounds. Miller is tied for 32nd through 54 holes and still in contention to earn an advancing position. The top 26 and ties from Windsor Park will advance to the Final Stage, which takes place January 11-14 at Suvarnabhumi Golf & Country Club in Bangkok.

In the fall, McCormick and Miller both narrowly missed advancing to the Final Stage of European Tour Qualifying School, which also caused them to withdraw from Second Stage of Web.com Tour Q-School due to the conflicting schedules.
