Passing of Ralph Heilman

December 21, 2016 - The MGA mourns the loss of former volunteer Ralph Strickland Heilman, 92, who died peacefully on Saturday, December 17 following a brief illness.

Heilman had a great love for golf and graciously volunteered in several capacities with the MGA, working events and also being part of the Course Rating team.

Heilman was born in Evanston, Illinois, and was a longtime resident of Chappaqua, N.Y., and Somers, N.Y. He graduated from Horace Greeley High School in 1942 and Hobart College in 1948 where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He served his country in the Army and Air Force from 1943-1951 and had a long career in wholesale paper sales, based in New York, NY.

In addition to the MGA, Heilman generously volunteered his time, expertise and humor to many community organizations: the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Chappaqua, the Chappaqua Fire Department, the New Castle Historical Society, the US Ski Association, and the Board of Managers for Heritage Hills Condo 2.

He leaves his wife of 18 years, Nancy (Cohn) Weinberg-Heilman; his children W. Strickland Heilman (Mary), Carmany H. Thorp (Erik) and Marguerite Heilman; 4 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; his stepchildren Jonathan Weinberg (Kate) and Stephen Weinberg (Kathleen); 4 step grandchildren; and his sister, Mary H. Althoff.
