Three Local Pros Make PGA Championship

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (June 27, 2013) - Two of the three Met Area professionals that finished in the top 20 at the National Club Pro Championship on Wednesday did so in dramatic (and clutch) fashion.

First it was 2012 Met Open winner Danny Balin of Burning Tree, who birdied the first playoff hole in a six-man race for three spots to secure his place in his fourth consecutive PGA Championship.

Then, it was two-time NYS Open champ Rob Labritz of GlenArbor, who magically holed out from 95-yards for birdie on the second playoff hole to take the third and final championship position (see video below). It looked bleak for Labritz following an errant tee shot that found a fairway bunker. From a difficult lie, he chunked out to about 95-yards where he would strike an absolute perfect gap wedge. Labritz was low club pro in the 2010 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits.

1999 Met Open winner Mark Brown of Tam O'Shanter saved himself some drama by finishing T9 in the championship. This will be his third PGA appearance.

Defending National Club Pro champion and recent Long Island Open winner Matt Dobyns of Fresh Meadows missed the cut.
