Lynch Takes Home Medalist Honors at Tallgrass
SHOREHAM. N.Y (June 13, 2013) – Two-time MGA Mid-Amateur champion Dennis Lynch of Nassau Players led a field of 84 players at the MGA/MetLife Public Links sectional qualifier, firing a 2-under 69 at Tallgrass Golf Course in Shoreham, N.Y., to take home medalist honors.
Lynch, a member of the MGA Executive Committee, is expected to be a serious contender at the MGA/MetLife Public Links Championship on July 11 at Richter Park Golf Course in Danbury, Conn. His best Public Links finish came in 2011 at Hominy Hill Golf Course where he finished sixth.
Eleven qualifying spots (plus ties) were up for grabs at rainy Tallgrass. In addition to Lynch, 14 other players advanced Thursday to the championship, all posting scores of 75 (4-over) or better. Adam Larkin of MGA eClub – LI, a member of the Farmingdale State golf team, finished second after a 1-over 72.
Among those tied for third included John Yu, David Prowler, and Justin Lomenzo, all from Bethpage, as well as Scott Singer and Joshua Leddy from the MGA eClub – LI, and Tim Jackson from Timber Point.
Seven more players tied for ninth to round out the qualifiers. Ryan Williams, Michael Worgul, and Timothy Ormsby, all from Bethpage, shot 75s. Thomas Dutton of Emerald, Dave Segot of Nassau Players and Kevin Allo of MGA eClub – LI all earned a trip to the championship as well.
The MGA will conduct their final qualifier for the championship next Thursday, June 20, at Bowling Green Golf Club in Oak Ridge, N.J.
The MGA/MetLife Public Links is open to all amateur golfers who play out of a public course and carry a Handicap Index of 8.0 or better.
