Cornelius E. DeLoca Elected President of the MGA
ELMSFORD, N.Y. (December 6, 2000) - Cornelius E. "Connie" DeLoca of Franklin Lakes, N.J., was elected to a one-year term as president of the Metropolitan Golf Association at the Association's 103rd Annual Meeting on Wednesday, December 6th, at the Westchester Country Club in Harrison, N.Y. Mr. DeLoca, the Association's 55th president, will head a 22-member Executive Committee comprised of four officers, 11 regular members, four special members and three ex-officio members.
Mr. DeLoca is a member and former president of Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, N.J. He has been an active MGA committeeman since 1983, serving in recent years as the chairman of the Association's Junior Committee. A member of the Executive Committee since 1991, he served as secretary, treasurer and vice president before being elected president. Mr. DeLoca also served as vice chairman of the 1990 U.S. Senior Open at Ridgewood.
A native New Yorker, a graduate of Bucknell University, and a retired IBM executive elected to "Who's Who in Finance and Industry" in 1977, Mr. DeLoca, now a management consultant and author, resides in Franklin Lakes, N.J., with his wife, Ann.
Also elected to one-year terms as officers at the Annual Meeting were Vice President Paul R. Dillon of Winged Foot GC, Secretary Donald J. Hendler of Glen Head CC, and Treasurer John M. Walbridge of Baltusrol GC.
The Association's Executive Committee will also include one newly elected member, John H. Lynch of St. George's G&CC, the most recent past president of the Long Island Golf Association. Also joining the Committee are William J. Cariello of Hempstead G&CC, who succeeds Lynch as President of the Long Island Golf Association, and Nancy Paton of Apawamis, who replaces Brigid Lamb as President of the Women's Metropolitan Golf Association.
More than 200 club delegates, MGA Committeemen, members of the press and representatives of the local and national golf community were present at the Annual Meeting. Highlights of the evening included remarks by USGA President Dr. Trey Holland; the presentation of the Association's highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award, to Oliver and Eleanor Lazare of the Metropolis CC, who together have served the Met Area golf community for over 30 years; and the presentation of the MGA Jerry Courville Sr., Player of the Year Award to Jerry Courville Jr. of Shorehaven GC, who this year captured his fourth Player of the Year Award in the last six years.
The MGA was founded in 1897, and is one of the nation's oldest and largest regional golf associations with more than 450 member clubs in the tri-state Metropolitan Area.
