Patterson Club hosts Connecticut Youth for "First Tee Day"
September 10, 2009 - The Patterson Club in Fairfield, Conn., joined a growing list of Met Area clubs that support the First Tee of Metropolitan New York by hosting a popular “First Tee Day.” A total of 24 members of the club came out to play a nine-hole scramble with youngsters currently enrolled in programming at The First Tee at Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course in Bridgeport, Conn. After golf, the members and kids enjoyed dinner and an awards presentation celebrating the day.
Patterson Club member Rick Richardson and head professional Chris Kenney helped spearhead the event. Richardson, who attended a First Tee Day earlier in the year at another site, took away from the event a desire to put together a similar day at his own club, and quickly moved to set one up at Patterson. With Kenney’s help, the club raised funds and encouraged members to donate golf clubs, which will be used by the participating youngsters at Fairchild Wheeler.
First Tee Days are an opportunity for members of clubs across the Met Area to meet and spend time with First Tee participants. The junior golfers benefit through the experience, and the members also learn more about how the program touches kids’ lives through the game of golf, as well as teaching other valuable life skills.
