BAYONNE, N.J. (April 16, 2008) – The Metropolitan Golf Association held its annual Media Day on April 16 at Bayonne Golf Club in Bayonne, N.J. The day featured a preview of the 2008 MGA championship line-up and press conference that was attended by 30 members of the local media. Following the press conference the attendees were able to experience firsthand the spectacular and challenging Bayonne golf course. Bayonne GC will host the second annual MGA Mid-Amateur Championship in October.

The day began with a presentation by Gene Westmoreland, Senior Director of Rules and Competitions, that previewed the sites of this year’s championships. These sites include Friar’s Head for the Met Amateur, CC of Fairfield for the Met Open and Metedeconk National for the Father & Son Championship. The media was then able question the five special guests of the MGA on a variety of topics. The guests included Eric Bergstol, owner/developer of Bayonne Golf Club; Greg Rohlf of Winged Foot, 2007 Met Amateur champion; Mike Reardon of Tuxedo, 2007 Mid-Amateur champion; Frank Bensel of Century, 2007 Met Open champion; and Frank Esposito of Brooklake, the 2007 NJPGA Player of the Year.

The day was a resounding success and by the end of the day an electric anticipation for the upcoming championship season was in the air. Remember to follow all of the action at www.mgagolf.org throughout the season.
