Q: My fellow competitor lost the coin he used to mark his ball, replacing it with a tee. I proceeded to putt and my ball glanced off the tee.  Do I incur a penalty for his lack of spare change?

Gene responds:

No. When they player marked his ball with the tee, you could have asked the mark to be moved. When the ball was deflected by the tee it was in play and you are forced to play from the spot where the ball came to rest, without penalty. Next time you may want an extra quarter in your bag!
