MGA Media Day gathers the area's local media and discusses the upcoming championship season, along with new communicative initiatives the association is taking on.
Following the introductions from MGA staff, a panel of three top Met Area players were on hand to field questions from the media on topics ranging from off-season practice, the anchored putting debate, and the upcoming season. The panel included two-time reigning MGA Player of the Year Mike Miller of Knollwood Country Club; three-time Met Open winner (and '83 winner at Old Westbury) Darrell Kestner of Deepdale Country Club; and three-time LIGA Open champion and Old Westbury's head professional Mike Meehan.
Following the press conference, Christina Lance and Brian DePasquale of the USGA, were on hand to present information about the U.S. Women's Open and the Walker Cup, both of which will be held on the East End of Long Island this year (Sebonack and National Golf Links, respectively).
In addition, Jim Holtgrieve, who will captain the 2013 U.S. Walker Cup team for the second consecutive time, phoned in for a special Q & A session and to talk about his expectations heading to National this September.
