Miller, McCormick Among Met Area Ams Playing in 2013 Jones Cup
ELMSFORD, N.Y. (January 31, 2013) - Several top Met Area amateurs will join an elite field beginning Friday, February 1 in Sea Island, Ga., when the 2013 Jones Cup Invitational gets underway at Ocean Forest Golf Club.
2012 Player of the Year Mike Miller and Met Amateur champion Ryan McCormick headline a group of talented local players that will compete against some of the best amateurs in the world. Joining them is 2010 U.S. Junior winner and Stanford University commit Jim Liu, 2012 Williamson Cup member and Wake Forest commit Clancy Waugh and University of Pacific golf team captain Alex Edfort.
The Jones Cup is a 54-hole stroke play event (no cut) and was first contested in 2001. Past participants include PGA Tour stars Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson, Bubba Watson, Luke Donald, and Webb Simpson.
And being that it's a Walker Cup year, it's a chance for many of the players to impress USA captain Jim Holtrieve, who will be taking in the action all weekend. Miller, who is now ranked No. 25 in the World Golf Amateur Rankings, said his number one goal this summer was the make the team.
