Garden City Re-Routed for 16th MGA Senior Open
GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (August 27, 2012) – Members of the Garden City Country Club may be experiencing a little bit of deja-vu today as they come out to watch the 16th MGA Senior Open today. The MGA has re-routed the Par 70 course back to the original 34-36 course setup that was played until 2002 when the club made the decision to switch the route and make it a 35-35 layout. The 34-36 route has the front nine ending with four demanding par 4s all over 400 yards and three of the four holes over 420 yards. Garden City made the switch to a 35 -35 to break up the four par 4s as well as bring a par 5 on to the front nine, instead of having all 3 par 5s on the back nine. The first eight holes and last three holes are the same but everything in between has changed. By bringing the par-5 12 hole on to the front nine it also allowed the club to have their “halfway house”, after the ninth hole instead of the twelfth. Below is the change in holes:
