Brooklawn CC Honors Veterans
FAIRFIELD, CONN. (December 2, 2010) – This past spring, Brooklawn Country Club in Fairfield, Conn., hosted a Day of Gratitude to honor local veterans. The chairman of the club’s Veterans Day Committee, Randy Goldrick, is encouraging other MGA member clubs to follow this example as a way to give back to veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The following is a letter Mr. Goldrick sent to the MGA:
Brooklawn Country Club’s Day of Gratitude for veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan on May 6 was a way to say thank you to the young men and women who served our country. The day was free for veterans.
The events began with a golf clinic at 11 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 12:30. An awards ceremony and dinner completed the day. Local newspapers and News 12 covered the event, and many Brooklawn members volunteered their time and support. Monetary donations were sent directly to veterans organizations.
Invitations were sent to veterans organizations in the local communities. Fifty veterans registered, and received gift bags loaded with items donated by local companies. Each veteran received a raffle prize. One participant said, “It was an amazing day, and we can’t say enough how welcome the club made us feel.”
Former President George H. Bush sent a personal letter thanking Brooklawn Country Club and urged us to encourage other clubs to follow our lead and hold their own events honoring veterans. We have the template and would be happy to discuss with the leadership of other MGA member clubs.
Sincerely,
Randy Goldrick(rgoldrick@aol.com)
