ELMSFORD, N.Y. (November 30, 2011) - It was yet another outstanding year for the MGA's Charitable Foundation, which annually impacts thousands of kids
throughout the tri-state Metropolitan Area. The work of the MGA Foundation reinforces that golf is at its best when it is looking to the future and exposing the joys, traditions, and values of the game to young people who may not have otherwise had the chance.
Despite a golf season that was impacted by adverse weather conditions and continued economic challenges, the MGA Foundation and all of the junior golf programs that it supports continue to flourish. Here are just a few highlights from 2011, a year of great accomplishments:
♦ The First Tee of Metropolitan New York, which the MGA Foundation helped create, celebrated its 10th anniversary with a gala event at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. Since its founding in 2001, the chapter has grown from one site to facilities throughout the Met Area. It is now the largest chapter in the country and one of the Met Area’s most successful youth development programs, with more than 5,000 juniors participating in The First Tee Life Skills programs each year.
♦ Our GOLFWORKS student intern program had a record 240 students working at 77 MGA clubs this past season. Since its inception in 1994, the program has given more than 2,500 high school students real work opportunities, taught them responsibility, and exposed them to positive role models.
♦ The MGA Foundation attracted large numbers of young people to spring Caddie Academies, Junior Championships and MGA/MetLife Youth Clinics, all of which continued to grow and have a positive impact on more and more young people.
We are very proud of what the MGA Foundation has accomplished, and the continued financial support we receive from the local golf community is greatly appreciated.
