Tyler Lee Earns Top Seed at 105th Met Junior Championship
SETAUKET, N.Y. (July 19, 2022) -- After 63 players played two rounds at St. George’s Golf & Country Club for stroke play qualifying in the 105th Met Junior Championship Sponsored by MetLife on Tuesday, the top 16 finishers moved on to match play.
Tyler Lee of Franklin Lakes, N.J., finished the day at the top of the leaderboard after shooting an impressive 5-under 135. In the morning, Lee shot 1-over 71, but it was the afternoon that helped him earn the No. 1 seed in the bracket. Lee, who's advanced to match play in the Met Junior each of the last two years, carded six birdies and went bogey-free for his 6-under 64 in the afternoon.
Dylan Gallagher of East Hampton, N.Y., shot 4-under 136 on the day, slotting him into the second seed thanks to two sub-par rounds. Thomas Finn of Locust Valley, N.Y., earned the No. 3 seed after shooting 2-under 138.
Last year's runner-up, John Hiller of New York, N.Y., Michael Ostrower of New York, NY., and Chad Ruggiero of Greenwich, Conn. all carded 1-under 139s on Tuesday to tie for fourth while five players posted even-par rounds. Jack Chung of Greenwich, Conn., shot +1/141 and 3 players shot +2/142 to round out 15 spots for Wednesday’s match play. Overall, those making match play shot 3-over 143 or better to advance, with Elliott Parker of Cranford, N.J., making birdie on the first hole of a 4-for-1 playoff to clinch the last spot.
Match play begins on Wednesday at St. George's, with the Round of 16 beginning at 7:30 a.m.
