Semifinals Set at 107th Met Junior Sponsored by MetLife
SCARSDALE, N.Y. (July 16, 2024) – Jack Chung of Greenwich, Conn., Zachary Munno of Stamford, Conn., Liam Pasternak from Morristown, N.J., and Lucas Rizo-Patron of Rye, N.Y. are the semifinalists at the 107th Met Junior Championship Sponsored by MetLife at Sunningdale Country Club.
Pasternak returns to the semifinals for the second year in a row—he was the runner-up last year. The other three are first-time semifinalists. Chung and Rizo-Patron made match play last year at Echo Lake but didn't make it past the Round of 16.

Rizo-Patron was the first to punch his ticket to the next round with a 2 & 1 win over Ethan Weinberg of Marlboro, N.J. Rizo-Patron won the first six holes and finished the front side 6-up. Weinburg mounted a furious comeback on the back nine. The 17-year-old won the 10th and then holes 13-16 to cut the deficit from six to two. Rizo-Patron then halved the par-3 17th to close the match.
Pasternak and Munno advance to the semifinals with 4 & 2 victories. Pasternak beat Liam Moloney from Chester, N.Y. Pasternak was 4-up through six holes and led by three at the turn. Moloney got back within one with wins on Nos. 10 and 11. Pasternak responded with wins on Nos. 13, 14, and 16. Munno started fast and led by three after four holes over Michael Clifford-Levy of East Hampton, N.Y.. Munno did not lead by less than three for the rest of the match and ended it with a par on the par-5 16th.
The final spot in the semifinals went to Jack Chung. Chung held on against Lance Hollingshead of Basking Ridge, N.J. 2 & 1. Chung gradually built a 3-up lead after 10 holes. Hollingshead then won the par-5 16th to keep the match going before Chung won with a two-putt par on the par-3 17th.
The semifinal matches get underway at 7 and 7:15 a.m. Wednesday morning. The two advancing golfers will meet in the championship match in the afternoon. The first semifinal match features Rizo-Patron and Pasternak, with Munno and Chung meeting in the other.
Sunningdale last hosted the junior in 1938, when William Clark won 3 & 2 over Wilson H. Flohr. Many architects have left their mark on the layout, from Seth Raynor, Walter Travis, and A. W. Tillinghast to Stephen Kay and, most recently, Mike DeVries. Recent work has included updating greens and bunkers.
