Qualifying begins for 115th Met Amateur
115th Met Amateur host Laurel Links Country Club.
LONG VALLEY, N.J. (July 5, 2017) – Qualifying for the 115th Met Amateur Championship began Wednesday at Black Oak Golf Club, where just four qualifying positions (plus ties) to Laurel Links Country Club in Laurel, N.Y., were up for grabs. The championship takes place August 3-6.

Dan O’Rourke of Oak Hill, Christopher Yeom of Rolling Green and Dylan Stein of Stanton Ridge shared medalist honors with matching 3-under 69s. Coming off a top-20 finish at the Ike Championship last week, O’Rourke shot a bogey-free 69. He carded birdies on Nos. 1, 3 and 8 to shoot a 3-under 33 on the outward nine, then tallied all pars on the way in.
Yeom, who also collected a top-20 finish at last week’s Ike, made six birdies on the day, but scattered in three bogeys for his 69. The rising Seton Hall junior had nines of 1-under 35 and 2-under 34. Meanwhile, Stein made five birdies on the day against two bogeys for his 69. The rising University of Arizona junior compiled nine-hole scores of 35-34.
Grabbing the last qualifying spot was David Powers of Swan Lake with a 1-under 71. Powers played steady, shooting 1-under 35 on his first nine and closing with an even-par 36 over his last nine to punch his ticket to Laurel Links.
Black Oak played to a par 72 at 6,891 yards for a field of 65 competitors.

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (July 5, 2017) – Hal Berman of Middle Bay led five qualifiers for the 115th Met Amateur Championship, Wednesday, at The Vineyards Golf Club with a 3-under 67.

Berman registered two birdies over the final three holes to propel himself to the top of the leaderboard and earn his spot at Laurel Links Country Club in Laurel, N.Y., for the MGA’s oldest championship, which takes place August 3-6.
Just one shot back was Ryan Reed of Crab Meadow with a 2-under 68. The final qualifying positions went to MGA eClub – Long Island member Sean Cavanaugh, Matt Simon of Wykagyl and Johnny Schob of Winged Foot—who sank a clutch birdie putt on the final hole to finish in red figures.
Vineyards played to a par-70 at 5,873 yards.
