Qualifying: 108th Met Open Championship Presented by Callaway

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (July 26, 2023) -- The 108th Met Open Championship Presented by Callaway heads to Arcola Country Club for the first time in its history, August 22-24. The Paramus, N.J., club has stepped into the spotlight several times in recent years, hosting the 2018 Met Amateur, 2019 Carey Cup and serving as stroke-play co-host for the 2022 U.S. Amateur Championship. Now, the region's top amateurs and professionals will test their skill upon the challenging parkland layout that's known for its speedy greens.

Recent Met Opens have served up exciting storylines and finishes, from Ryan Siegler's clutch finish at Bethpage Black last year and Andy Svoboda winning his third career title in 2021 at Hudson National to Luke Sample becoming the youngest-ever champion and eighth amateur to win the title in 2020 at Mountain Ridge.

This year, six qualifiers will take place between July 26 and August 8 to complete the field at Arcola that will contend for the Walker L. Trammell Trophy.

July 26 - Fiddler's Elbow Country Club (Forest), Bedminster, N.J.
A total of 11 golfers punched their ticket to the Met Open Championship with scores of 1-under par 71 or better. The leaderboard was topped by Sam Brackett of Bedford Golf and Tennis, Ethan Lee of Colts Neck, Edmund Broderick of Fiddlers Elbow, Wanxi Sun of Fiddlers Elbow and Steve Shellock of Suneagles, with all five players finishing at 4-under with 68s on the day. The leaderboard stayed tight behind them as two players finished at 2-under par and a trio finished at 1-under-par 71 to claim the final qualifying spots.

July 27 - Timber Point Golf Course, Great River, N.Y.
Golfers battled high temperatures and strong wind at the second Met Open Qualifier. The strong wind kept scores close to or above par for almost all golfers. It was Andre Ulvenes Klepoe of MGA eClub and a rising junior at LIU who claimed medalist honors. Klepoe shot 3-under on the front recording 3 birdies. Although he would give one back coming in, a 2-under 70 was good enough to claim the top spot. Anthony Aruta of North Shore CC was the only other golfer to shoot below par. Aruta recorded 5 birdies on the day to finish at 1-under par and claim a solo second place. Philip Cardwell of Rockville Links, Michael Auerbach of Bellport GC and Tim Rosenhouse of Rockaway Hunting Club who all tied for third with even par golf. 5 other golfers punched their tickets finishing at 1 over par.

July 31 - Hamlet Golf & Country Club, Commack, N.Y.
Ten Players moved on to the Met Open at Arcola Country Club with scores of 70 or better at Hamlet Golf and Country Club. Sunny Kim of Clearview Park GC led the field after carding 7 birdies to shoot a 5-under 65 for the day. Nolan Forsman of Winged Foot GC and Tyler Fieser of Meadow Brook Hunt Club each recorded 3 birdies while Kyle Brey of Bethpage State Park carded 5 to all tie for second place with a 2-under 68. Two Amateurs squeezed into the final qualifying spots as well as Michael Winter of the Seawane Club at even par.

July 31 - Knollwood Country Club, Elmsford, N.Y.
Over 120 golfers teed it up at Knollwood Country Club to try and punch their ticket to the Met Open. It was Ryan Skae of Hudson National GC who came out on top and earned medalist honors. Skae carded 8 birdies for the day on his way to shoot 5-under par with a 66. Amateurs Bobby Diforio of Harrison Meadows CC and Daniel Macdonald of Arcola CC tied for second place each shooting a 2-under 69. Seven more Amateurs carded rounds of 1-over 72 or better to earn a spot at the Met Open.

August 1 - Suburban Golf Club, Union, N.J.
Twenty golfers secured their tickets to the Met Open with rounds of even par or better. Arav Patel of Forsgate Golf Club earned medalist honors after recording 8 birdies and no bogies to shoot a 63, three shots clear of the next closet. With a score of 5-under par Elliot Parker of Suburban GC finished in a solo second. Parker finished with a bogey free 66. Taking home a solo third was Andres Acevedo of MGA eClub New Jersey with a 4-under 67. The tight scores continued down the leaderboard with 9 golfers including 4 amateurs shooting even-par to claim the final qualifying spots.

August 8 - Country Club of New Canaan, New Canaan, Conn.
Amateur Jackson Fretty of Greenwich Country Club lead a field of over 115 golfers who battled for 15 qualifying spots in New Canaan. Fretty fired a 4-under par after recording 4 birdies on the back 9 to finish with a 66. Finishing in a tie for second was Tyler McCardell of Essex County Country Club and Dawson Jones of Eagle Oaks Golf Club. Both golfers had strong back 9’s to finish at 3-under with a 67 total. It was a group of 7 including 2 amateur golfers who claimed the final spots shooting even par 70.
