The championship debuted in 2007 at Hudson National and has since visited some of the region's most respected venues, with Wee Burn Country Club, Somerset Hills Country Club and Friar's Head hosting the most recent playings. The trophy, the Westmoreland Cup, is named for longtime MGA Tournament Director Gene Westmoreland who was instrumental in launching the championship and has a great passion for the mid-amateur game.

Tilley on a Tear

Starting New Streaks?
Darin Goldstein of Deepdale (5) and Tilley (4) saw their consecutive top-10 streaks in the championship get halted last season at Friar’s Head. No player posted back-to-back top-10 finishes in 2020-2021.

Old Stompin’ Grounds
Two-time reigning MGA Player of the Year Mark Costanza of Hamilton Farm is returning to a familiar spot, as Costanza grew up playing at The Tuxedo Club. Costanza has only competed in the MGA Mid-Amateur once, finishing tied for fourth in 2020 at Somerset Hills.

Met & Mid-Amateur
Earlier this year, Tilley joined Greg Rohlf as the only players to win both the Met Amateur and MGA Mid-Amateur. Past Met Amateur champions Garett Engel of Old Westbury, Tommy McDonagh of Shorehaven, Mike Stamberger of Spring Lake and Pat Wilson of Hamilton Farm all have the opportunity to add to that list with a win at Tuxedo.

It has previously welcomed the Met Amateur, Father & Son Championship, Mixed Pinehurst, Ike, Senior Open, Met Open, Women’s Met Amateur, Senior Masters and Met Junior.
