After a brief introduction about the USGA and what they do, the students were broken up into two groups with one visiting the USGA Museum and Arnold Palmer Center for Golf History and the other taking a look into the Research and Test Center. After a quick break for lunch, the groups rotated learning activities. In the Golf Museum, students were sent on a scavenger hunt, exploring the immense history the museum has to offer, and even getting a glimpse of the USGA Championship trophies. Over in the Research and Test Center, students learned about the materials and methods that go into making the perfect golf ball. They even observed how they test the golf balls using their "mechanical golfer." The day finished up with a film about some of the greatest names in golf and every student was given a 2019 U.S. Open hat and special Arnold Palmer pin to take home.
This fun-filled learning experience was part of a series of Youth Clinics that the MGA Foundation hosts each summer thanks to the support of Sterling National Bank. With events such as these, the MGA and MGA Foundation work to continue instilling the values and traditions of golf in the next generation of golfers.
As always, the MGA Foundation thanks the USGA for their hospitality and help in putting on this event and welcoming all of the students, chaperones, and MGA staff to their facilities.
