MGA Finishes Seventh at 60th Williamson Cup

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. (August 13, 2024) – The four golfers representing the MGA at the 60th Williamson Cupfinished in seventh on Tuesday. 

Zachary Berger of Remsenburg, N.Y., Aryan Gautam of Trumbull, Conn., Zachary Munno of Stamford, Conn., and Holden Schipper of Lebanon, N.J., were the four competing at Rehoboth Beach Country Club in the 36-hole event. 

It was Berger's and Munno's second straight year representing the MGA in the event. 

The Washington Metropolitan Golf Association won the 60th Williamson Cup at 15-under par to beat the Syracuse District Golf Association by five shots. Jack Hartman of the Washington Metropolitan Golf Association won the individual title by one shot at 12-under par after firing back-to-back rounds of 6-under par 66.

Munno was the top finisher for the MGA, finishing in a tie for 10th at 2-under. Munno recorded a 3-under par 69 in the morning, featuring four birdies and one bogey. In the afternoon, the Stamford, Conn., native finished at 1-over 73. Munno was 3-over par on the front nine and 2-under on the back nine in the afternoon. 

Berger had the best round for the MGA in the afternoon, firing a 5-under 67 to move up to T14 individually and finish at even par for the event. Berger tallied six birdies and one bogey. The front nine saw Berger birdied Nos. 1, 4, and 6 and didn't drop a shot. 

Berger, Munno, and Schipper recorded the three scores that counted for the team in the morning for the MGA team. Berger finished at 5-over, Munno was 3-under, and Schipper finished at 4-over in the morning. After the morning 18, Team MGA found themselves in a tie for seventh at 6-over par.

Syracuse District Golf Association and Washington Metropolitan Golf Association shared the lead after 18 holes at 8-under in the morning. Hartman fired a 6-under 66 in the morning to lead Washington MGA. Mitchell Archer led the way for the Syracuse team at 5-under par. 

Hartman and Noah Wallace of Delaware State Golf Association shared the individual lead at 6-under after the first 18 holes. Munno was the low member of Team MGA at 3-under. 

Founded in 1964, the Williamson Cup is a 36-hole stroke play competition. Four juniors represent each of the 10 associations, and the best three scores from each round counting toward the team's overall score.
