Live From: U.S. Open Final Qualifying
PURCHASE, N.Y. (June 6, 2022) -- Jamie Lovemark of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., leads the way as morning rounds have concluded at Century Country Club and Old Oaks Country Club for U.S. Open Final Qualifying. Lovemark’s round of 4-under, 66 currently has him one stroke ahead of a strong field looking to punch their tickets to the 122nd U.S. Open Championship at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass., June 16-19.
With five spots up for grabs, and an additional two alternate positions, much is yet to be determined with the afternoon waves just beginning. The lower scores from the first 18 holes came primarily from Century Country Club. Lovemark, who qualified for the U.S. Open in 2015 through the Purchase Final Qualifier, is one stroke ahead of Chris Gotterup of Little Silver, N.J., Michael Thorbjornsen of Wellesley, Mass., and three-time MGA Champion Mark Costanza of Morristown, N.J., who all finished at 3-under.
12 golfers who began their days at Century finished under par. On the flip side, Old Oaks yielded just five rounds under par. The lowest score from the morning at Old Oaks belonged to Dylan Newman of New Rochelle, N.Y., who finished in 3-under. No other golfer who started their day at Old Oaks was able to card better than a 1-under round of 69.
Last year when the Final Qualifying rounds were hosted by Old Oaks and Century, Old Oaks played nearly a full stroke tougher than Century meaning many of the top scores from the morning wave will be in for a battle as they cross the road this afternoon.
Early afternoon rounds are now underway from both Century and Old Oaks as players will switch 18’s for their afternoon rounds. For live scoring, updates, and a full recap, stay tuned to the MGA website and social media channels.
