McCormick Jumps Out to Early Lead at 57th Ike
BRIDGEHAMPTON, N.Y. (June 26, 2012) - Blustery conditions at Atlantic Golf Club is making for difficult scoring during the first-round of the 57th Ike Championship. With gusts consistently between 15-20 mph, only a few players in the talented field were able to go low during the morning wave.
Recent NJSGA Amateur winner Ryan McCormick of Suburban continued his stellar play as of late and jumped out to an early lead after an impressive 1-over 73. But trailing him by only a shot are his St. John's teammate Pat Wilson of Panther Valley and 2009 Carter Cup and Met Am winner Cameron Wilson.
Max Buckley of Westchester is three back after an opening round 76, while Brian Hale of Plainfield, Dylan Crowley of Glen Cove, and Jim Liu of Bethpage both opened with 77s. The low 40 scores and ties will advance to the second day (Wednesday), where competitors will play 36 holes.
Tuesday's tough conditions come a day after play was cancelled due to severe rain and lightning. More than half of the field remains on the course and we'll be updating the leaderboard and story throughout the day.
