Gordon, Nethercott Claim Mixed Pinehurst Title at Bally's Ferry Point
THE BRONX, N.Y. (October 17, 2024) – Kevin Gordon and Sydney Nethercott of Wykagyl Country Club claimed the 60th MGA/WMGA Mixed Pinehurst Championship on Thursday, carding a 2-over 73 at Bally’s Golf Links at Ferry Point in the Pinehurst format.
The duo won by match of cards, defeating Kate Granahan and Todd Wiggins of Upper Montclair Country Club by shooting five shots better on the back nine.
The first group out, the duo started their round with a pair of bogeys on Nos. 2 and 3 – a par 4 and 3, respectively – but quickly recovered with a birdie on the sixth. They finished the front nine with two bogeys and a double bogey.
However, the duo regained momentum on the turn as they carded birdies on Nos. 11, 12, and the challenging 15th – a 545-yard hole that plays uphill. With the wind testing players on the course, the duo closed with three consecutive pars to round out a stellar 3-under 33 on the final nine.
Mark and Rachel Fain of Village Club at Sands Point won the net division with a 2-under 69, while also claiming the Long Island Golf Association division with a gross score of 4-over 75.
The Fains carded three birdies and two double bogeys, edging LIGA competitors David Segot and recent MGA Lexus Long Drive women's champion Claire Galante of Nassau Country Club by a shot; and besting Scott and Tracy Pester of Baltusrol Golf Club by three in the overall Net division.
Gordon and Nethercott also earned the title in the Westchester Golf Association division of the championship.
