Gabel earns medalist honors as 21 qualify from Westhampton
WESTHAMPTON BEACH, N.Y. (May 30, 2018) - Daniel Gabel of McCann shot a 3- under 67 on Wednesday, May 30th at Westhampton Country Club to lead 21 competitors who shot 74 or better in qualifying for the 63rd Ike MGA Stroke Play Championship presented by Callaway.
Coming in one shot behind Gabel, was Darren McCormack of Great Rock with a round of 2-under 68. Christopher White of Garden City GC also fired an under par round as a card of 1-under 69 safely earned him a spot in the championship.
A trio of competitors finished with even-par 70 rounds; Colby Anderson of Nassau CC, Rich Messina of Sands Point and Davis Weil of Ridgewood (NJ).
Jack Casler of Garden City CC earned his qualifying spot after carding a round of 1-over 71, while Jack Cammisa of Winged Foot, Brad Barnett of Cherry Valley (LI), Matthew Camel of Round Hill, Kyle Ritchie of Cherry Valley (LI), and Andrew Chambers of Maidstone punched their tickets with rounds of 2-over 72.
The remaining qualifying spots went to the following players: JB Thompson III of Westhampton (73), Hunter Semels of North Hempstead (73), Dennis Lynch of Nassau Players Club (73), Daniel Gordon of North Hempstead (74), Christopher Gabriele of Huntington Country Club (74), Ben Pirro of MGA eClub – Long Island (74), Gerry Mackedon of Port Jefferson (74), Zach Grossman of South Fork (74), and Alex Freedman of Bethpage State Park (74).
Westhampton Country Club played to a par 70 at 6,520 yards.
The final qualifier for the 63rd Ike MGA Stroke Play Championship presented by Callaway will be held on Thursday, June 7th at Richmond County Country Club in Staten Island, N.Y.
