Ganne, USA win 42nd Curtis Cup Matches
UPDATE (June 12, 2022) -- New Jersey's Megha Ganne went a perfect 3-0 in her Curtis Cup debut at Merion, helping the United States retain the cup with a 15.5 to 4.5 victory over Great Britain & Ireland. With the United States' third consecutive victory, the red, white and blue now own a 31-8-3 advantage all time in the event.

Ganne played four-ball matches alongside fellow rookie Amari Avery of Riverside, Calif., both Friday and Saturday. The tandem, which also paired up in the Junior Solheim Cup, defeated Caley McGinty and Lauren Walsh, 3-and-2, on Friday before upending Hannah Darling and Annabell Fuller by a 2-and-1 margin on Saturday.
While Ganne sat out the foursome matches both afternoons, she continued to take care of business on Sunday in her final singles match. Ganne won two of the first four holes and while Amelia Williamson trimmed the deficit to one on multiple occasions, Ganne held strong and closed out the match by winning the 17th hole for a 2-and-1 win.
The United States on seven of its eight singles matches, moving to an impressive 42-22 mark in singles play since 2008.
The 43rd Curtis Cup Match will be contested at Sunningdale Golf Club in Ascot, England in two years. The dates of the three-day event in 2024 have yet to be determined. The 2026 and 2030 Curtis Cups are headed to Bel-Air Country Club (June 12-14) in Los Angeles, and National Golf Links of America (June 12-14) in Southampton, N.Y., respectively.

Though both rookies, the duo has plenty of high-level experience and have even played alongside one another as a team in the Junior Solheim Cup. Ganne and Avery won the first hole with a birdie-three and never looked, back, building a 4-up advantage before ultimately closing out the match after 16 holes.
For Ganne, being an alternate for last year's matches has played a key role in seeing what it's like to be part of the team.
"I learned a lot from being outside the ropes and learned to really be a team player and cheer on my teammates... you have a lot of impact other than just hitting the golf ball, so I tried to apply that this week, and now I do get to play some matches, so it's been fun," said Ganne after the morning win.

While Ganne served as an alternate in 2021 and traveled with the team for its victory in Wales last year, Ganne was selected for this year's squad and gets her first competition Friday morning, teaming with Amari Avery against Great Britain and Ireland's Caley McGinty and Lauren Walsh.

Merion is hosting the Curtis Cup Match for the second time, first hosting in 1954. The competition pits eight elite female amateurs from the USA against counterparts from Great Britain and Ireland over three days. A trio of four-ball and foursomes matches take place both Friday and Saturday, while competition closes with eight singles matches on Sunday.
Both teams return many of their players from the 2021 match, which was postponed from 2020 due to COVID-19. Great Britain and Ireland returns six of its eight players, while the U.S. has five of its players back.
Golf Channel and Peacock will carry 17 hours of live coverage as the USA will look to win its third consecutive Match. GB&I has only managed one victory (1986) on U.S. soil since the biennial team competition began in 1932. There have been two draws, and GB&I retained the Cup on both occasions.
