Despite being a championship where players age out and must qualify each year to go directly into the match play bracket, six players are making their second appearance in the championship. Zach Berger of Remsenburg, N.Y., Quinn Egan of White Plains, N.Y., Holden Schipper of Lebanon, N.Y., and Tong Si of Millburn, N.J., are all making their second consecutive start in the championship, while Felix Petrillo of Harrison, N.Y., returns to the field after competing in 2021. Meanwhile, though 14 years old and the second youngest player in the field, Ken Fernandes of Chappaqua, N.Y., is making his third-consecutive appearance in the event. Of those returning, Schipper has advanced the farthest, winning a pair of matches to make it to the semifinals on day two last year at The Saint Andrew's Golf Club.

Gardiner's Bay Country Club is hosting the championship for the 14th time since 1985, serving as the victory site for numerous rising star players including now area professionals Greg Bisconti (St. Andrew's) and Tyler Hall (Upper Montclair), two-time MGA Player of the Year Mark Costanza, and standouts Nathan Han and Luke Sample.

The field is completed from a trio of qualifiers held throughout the Met Area. It often stands as a players' introduction to match play. The Round of 16 and Quarterfinals take place on Thursday, with the Semifinals and Finals scheduled for Friday.
