The 2016 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship is coming to famed Winged Foot Golf Club this May. Members of the golf community have the special chance to fill on-course volunteer positions as a marshall/forecaddie during the opening days of the championship, May 21-23. As with all USGA events, volunteers will incur a nominal expense through the purchase the volunteer uniform.
The U.S. Amateur Four-Ball and the U.S. Women's Four-Ball are the newest national championships conducted by the USGA, first being played in 2015 at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, California, and Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Oregon, respectively. They are the first additions to the USGA roster of national championships since the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur in 1987.
Sectional qualifying for 2016 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball began in August of 2015 and will conclude in April, with the final field being composed of 128 sides. Following two rounds of stroke play – one on Winged Foot's East Course and one on the West Course – the top 32 sides will advance to match play and compete on the East Course to determine a champion.
The U.S. Amateur Four-Ball is the 12th USGA Championship to be hosted by Winged Foot Golf Club. However, it will be just the third USGA event in which a champion will be crowned on the East Course, joining the 1957 U.S. Women's Open and the 1980 U.S. Senior Open.
