Qualifying concludes for 101st Met Open

GALLOWAY, N.J. (August 9, 2016) - Qualifying for the 101st Met Open Championship concluded Tuesday at Galloway National Golf Club in Galloway, N.J.  A total of 15 competitors advanced from the original field of 114. Two-time Ike champion Mike Ballo, Jr. of Woodway earned medalist honors on the day with a round of 3-under 68.

Coming in close behind with qualifying scores of 2-under 69 were amateur Ryan Rose of Ridgewood and Jason Lamp of Galloway.

2013 Met Amateur Champion Pat Wilson of Hamilton Farm earned a spot at Glen Oaks thanks to a solid round of 1-under 70.

Four players safely qualified for the championship with rounds of even-par 71 including, 2014 MGA Player of the Year David Pastore of MGA eClub – Westchester/Fairfield (who was playing with his brother’s clubs while he awaits his to be returned by an airline), 2012 Met Am winner Ryan McCormick of Suburban, Corey Brigham of Beacon Hill, and Matt Dubrowski of White Beeches.

Seven players grabbed the remaining qualifying spots with rounds of 1-over 72: amateur Darin Goldstein of Noyac, amateur Christopher Yeom of MGA eClub – New Jersey, Christopher Dymek of Manasquan River, Sean Curtin of Mendham, Patrick Fillian of Echo Lake, Marc Issler of Pine Barrens, and Dean Halterman of Galloway.

Galloway played to a par 71 at 6,680 yards.

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y., (August 2, 2016) - Qualifying for the 101st Met Open Championship continued at Hempstead Golf and Country Club in Hempstead, N.Y.  A total of 13 competitors advanced from the original field of 126. Amateur Rob Rusche of Hamlet Golf and Country Club earned medalist honors with a blazing round of 5-under 67, thanks to a bogey free card and five birdies.

Coming in close behind with a qualifying score of 3-under 69 was Alex Willey of Fresh Meadow.

John Kuntz of Garden City Country Club, James Ondo of Apawamis and Tom Withee of Seawane were the only other competitors to finish in red figures, as rounds of 1-under 71 punched tickets to Glen Oaks.

Eight players grabbed the remaining qualifying spots with rounds of even-par 72, including Rich Kelly, Jr. of Village Club, Mike Midgette of Bethpage, Michael Furci of West Sayville, Sean Farren of The Creek, Jason Caron of Mill River, Adam Larkin of Old Oaks, amateur Ethan Ng of Fiddler’s Elbow, and amateur James Day of MGA eClub - New York City. 

Hempstead played to a par 72 at 6,742 yards.

SANDS POINT, N.Y. (August 1, 2016) - Qualifying for the 101st Met Open Championship continued at Sands Point Golf Club in Sands Point, N.Y., where 19 competitors advanced from the original field of 150. This year's Brae Burn Invitational champion amateur Stewart Hagestad of Deepdale earned medalist honors at 5-under 65.

Hagestad got off to a hot start and never looked back as he birdied his opening hole of the day. Five more birdies throughout the round and only one bogey vaulted him to the top spot on the leaderboard.

Coming in close behind with qualifying scores of 3-under 67 were Mario Guerra of Quaker Ridge and Christopher Marinaro of Muttontown.

Amateur Obediah Ayton of Rockaway Hunting and Spencer Smith of Deepdale were the only other competitors to finish in red figures, as rounds of 1-under 69 were good enough to earn spots at Glen Oaks.

Seven qualifying spots went out to players who finished with rounds of even-par 70, including Cory Muller of Darien, Jeremy Quinn of Lawrence Yacht, Jeffrey Kellen of Rock Hill, (a) Colby Anderson of North Shore, Scott Ford of Glen Oaks, Joseph Horowitz of Sands Point, and Matt Noel of Huntington Country. 

Seven other players took the remaining qualifying positions with rounds of 1-over 71: amateur Joshua Goldenberg of Fenway, Paul Dickinson of Atlantic, amateur John Crowley of Round Hill, amateur Corey Mitchener of Ballyowen, Frank Mattei of Bonnie Briar, amateur Thomas Lee of MGA eClub – New Jersey, and Kyle Baehler of Willow Ridge.

Sands Point played to a par 70 at 6,706 yards.

MAHOPAC, N.Y. (August 1, 2016) – Six players earned co-medalist honors with a 2-under 68 at Mahopac Golf Club in Mahopac, N.Y., en route to the 101st Met Open Championship to be held at the Glen Oaks Club in Old Westbury, N.Y.

After the first round, Mike Larkin of the Golf Club of Purchase set the clubhouse low at 2-under 68 and was later matched by Peter Ballo of Old Oaks, John DiPilato of Old Oaks, Pete Catanzaro of Scarsdale, Kyle Higgins of Inwood, and Andrew Carter Farrell of Doral Arrowood.

Husband Kimmel III of Tamarack, Brice Busse of Metropolis, and amateur Christian Cavaliere of Mahopac also carded red numbers with scores of 1-under 69. Cavaliere, just 18 years old, is fresh off his recent victory as the 2016 Met Junior Champion.

Qualifying with scores of even-70 were Andrew Shiflet of the Creek, Erik Mahany of Bayonne, and amateur Brendan Hunter of MGA eClub – Hudson.

Eleven other players took the remaining qualifying positions with rounds of 1-over 71: Kevin Syring of Alpine, amateur Michael Savitt of Century, Nick Maselli of Old Oaks, amateur Scott Sessions of Knollwood, amateur James Nicholas of Winged Foot, Michael Holiday of Upper Montclair, Geoff F. Gelderman of Fairchild Wheeler, Patrick Langan of the Golf Club of Purchase, Jason Golbleck of Westchester Hills, Patrick Clark of Wee Burn, and amateur Dan O’Rourke of High Bridge Hills.

Mahopac Golf Club played to a par 70 at 6,489 yards for a starting field of 132 players.

HAWORTH, N.J. (August 1, 2016) - Qualifying for the 101st Met Open Championship resumed at Haworth Country Club in Haworth, N.J., where 12 competitors advanced from the original field of 79. Amateur Blake Dipaola of Black Oak Golf Club earned medalist honors at 4-under 68.

Related: Results

Dipaola recorded seven birdies and secured medalist honors despite making three bogeys.

Amateur Scott Kim of Darlington, amatuer Ethan Wall of Manasquan River, and Bryan Dougherty of Ridgewood followed with rounds of 2-under 70 to also advance to Glen Oaks.

At 1-under 71, Mark Yannotta of Anchor Golf Center, amateur Jake Hommel of Wiltwyck, and amatuer Luke Graboyes of MGA eClub - New Jersey safely qualified.

At even-par 72, rounding out the qualifiers were Sangsoo Lee of Overpeck, Joe P. Bush of Shackamaxon, Adam Kolloff of Liberty National, amatuer Matthew Rendell of MGA eClub - NYC, and David Schuster of Sleepy Hollow.

Haworth played to a par 72 at 6,826 yards.
