Century hosts Els for Autism Foundation fundraiser for second year

PURCHASE, N.Y. (September 2, 2015)Century hosted an Els for Autism Foundation fundraiser on Monday, August 31, welcoming an outstanding group of PGA Tour professionals and Met Area supporters for the second straight year to raise autism awareness and funds for the Hall of Famer’s foundation.

Following last year’s highly successful fundraiser, Els looked forward to growth in years to come, writing, “it was a fun event and I hope we can continue to build on this year after year,” on a pgatour.com blog. The event is off to an outstanding start, having raised more than $1 million in just two years.

The fundraiser had another stellar turnout, including professionals Padraig Harrington, K.J. Choi, Lee Janzen, Tony Finau, Jim Herman, and Jonas Blixt in addition to local professionals Max Buckley, Mike Miller, Andrew Svoboda, Frank Bensel and 100th Met Open champion Ben Polland. A team led by Russell Knox recorded the low score of the day at 56, while Harrington had a great day on the course, shooting 62 for a new course record.

Century member Philip Mintz once again served as a key organizer, having approached Els last year with hopes of establishing an event to raise autism awareness in the Met Area. Last year’s inaugural outing raised more than $500,000.

The Els for Autism Foundation was established in 2009 by Els and his wife Liezl shortly after their son Ben was diagnosed with autism. The foundation recently celebrated a major milestone, as the Els Center for Excellence was opened on August 25. The 26-acre campus in Jupiter, Fla., welcomed 115 kids and aims to not only have a local reach in assisting the education of those in Palm Beach County, but a global impact as well, serving as a research and awareness hub for autism.
