The 2015 Hochster Memorial champ carded a 3-under 69 to take home medalist honors and earn a trip to Winged Foot. With five birdies on the front nine, Komline tied for the lowest nine-hole number of the day with a 3-under 33.
Two shots back, Greg Reilly (a) of CC of Darien notched a 1-under 71 to qualify for his second championship in a week, advancing to the Met Open just five days after securing a spot in the Met Am. Following years of just misses at qualifiers, today’s performance at Brae Burn was extra special for Reilly.
“Had a few close calls in the past, and while I’m happy to qualify for anything, this really means a lot,” Reilly reflected. “The 100th Met Open is a big deal and I’m excited to be a part of it.”
Paul Dickinson of Atlantic also carded a 1-under 71 and tallied the first eagle of the day when he knocked in a tricky putt on 9.
Coming in at even par, Brent Studer of Metedeconk, Andrew Gai of Longshore, Colin Amaral of Metropolis, Peter Ballo of Old Oaks, Chris Case of Mount Kisco, Kyle Baehler of Willow Ridge and Tyler Cline (a) of Tuxedo all earned a position in the final field. At 2-over heading to the 18th tee Cline made an eagle on the last hole to salvage his round and punch his Met Open ticket.
Tied at 1-over 73 and rounding out the qualifiers were Dylan Thew of Deepdale, Kevin Lawrence of Spring Lake, Matthew Bettino (a) of Siwanoy, Matt Noel of Huntington, Kyle Higgins of Inwood, Derrick Bongjun Kim (a) of Rolling Green, and Justin Sheehan of Metedeconk.
In hot and humid conditions, Brae Burn played to a par of 72 at 6,841 yards.
