MetPGA President, Heath Wassem (Fenway Golf Club) and Director of Golf, Brad Worthington (Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point), who co-chair the WE Golf Committee with Kate Keller, were among the seven PGA Golf Professionals on hand providing instruction throughout the afternoon. Other instructors included Alana Swain (Scarsdale Golf Club), Greg DuCharme (Michael Breed Golf Academy), Colin Igoe (Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point), Jenny Sullivan and Drew Burkhardt (Westchester Country Club). Kyla Basso (The Woodmere Club) spoke to the group about on-course etiquette and the many benefits of playing golf for personal and professional networking.
More than 40 women attended the clinic, rotating through four instruction stations consisting of full swing drivers, full swing irons, chipping and putting. The groups then moved onto the course for an on-course introduction and played the first hole with their assigned PGA Golf Professional. The event concluded with a cocktail reception on the patio.
“The energy and enthusiasm these women have about learning the game is so exciting. This was our most successful clinic to date and we could not be more pleased with the traction this new initiative is gaining.” MGA’s Director, Special Events, Member Services and Public Relations, Kate Keller said. “Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point was just fantastic. Their expansive practice facility provided the perfect setting for the clinic, and participants loved the stunning views of the golf course, Whitestone Bridge and New York City as a backdrop. Brad, Colin, Elizabeth Hickey, Joe Roediger and the entire staff at Ferry Point went above and beyond to make our participants feel welcome and special, which is vital to our mission and the continued success of the program.”
The next WE Golf event, an on-course experience, will be held on July 26th at Mosholu Golf Course, home of The First Tee of Metropolitan New York.
The Mission of the MGA Foundation is to ensure the future of golf by bringing the values and traditions of the game to the next generation of golfers through innovative programs aimed at underprivileged youth, junior golfers and the physically disabled.
Since its founding in 1991 MGA Foundation programs have impacted thousands of young people through Caddie Academies, GOLFWORKS, The First Tee of Metropolitan New York and Junior Competitions. Educational Programing and a library and archives center at Golf Central help fulfill our mission to help preserve the game's past and protect its future.
