Hana Ku Wins 13th WMGA/MGA Women's Met Am
SPRINGFIELD, N.J. (June 3, 2014) – A field of 83 women took on Baltusrol Golf Club in the 13th WMGA/MGA Women’s Met Amateur on Tuesday. Hana Ku of Neshanic Valley won the championship with a score of 3-under 70 on the Lower Course. Ku, playing in the final pairing of the day, battled through some late afternoon rain to win by four strokes.
Allison Kucinski of Tuxedo was the runner-up with a 1-over 74. Kucinski finished T7 at last year’s Women’s Met Am at The Creek. Zora Moore of Oak Hill won the Low Net prize with a net 70.
Ku, 18, had an impressive six birdies throughout her round today. She just finished her freshman year at Princeton where she was named to the Second-Team All-Ivy League and tied for seventh at the Ivy League Championship, held on Baltusrol’s Upper Course last month. She was a top player at Ridge High School and played in the 2013 U.S. Women’s Amateur and U.S. Girl’s Junior. She and her younger sister were on the winning WMGA Intercity Team in 2013.
The women faced another challenge today - a two-hour weather delay due to passing storms in the late afternoon.
Historic Baltusrol Golf Club, host of the upcoming 2016 PGA Championship, played to a par 37-36-73 at 5,689 yards on the Lower Course for the women.
The MGA and WMGA partnered together in 2012 to co-administer the event, which has grown in popularity since its inception in 2002 to become one of the premiere amateur women’s events in the Met Area. For more information on the event, please visit www.wmga.com
