Wilson Cracks Top 45 at Web.com Tour Q-School Finals
ELMSFORD, N.Y. (December 16, 2014) - 2009 MGA Player of the Year Cameron Wilson of Shorehaven battled the difficult Fazio and Champion courses at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. for six straight days and it all paid off in the end. The two-time Ike Champion finished at 9-under par after 108 holes of play in the Web.com Tour Q-School Finals, earning him a tie for 28th finish. That finish slotted him in the 11-45th range, which gets those players eight exemptions in the 2015 Web.com Tour season.
It wasn't an ideal start for Wilson, who's first round was played on the Champion Course, also knows as "The PGA TOUR's Toughest Course." He fired a 3-over 74 and found himself having to gain ground quickly on the Fazio Course the next day. Wilson ended up posting his best round of the week, a 6-under 66 that vaulted him up the leaderboard and gave him a great chance to at least get inside the top 45. After two rounds of 70 and 68 got him to 8-under after four rounds, Wilson had a legitimate shot at the top 10, which would have earned him exemptions into 12 Web.com Tour events. He shot a solid 2-under 70 on the Fazio for his fifth round score, but today's 1-over 72 wouldn't be top 10 worthy. The T-28th finish is an excellent one though, and one that earns him plenty of chances to capitalize on in the 2015 season.
Also in Florida this week was MGA Player of the Year David Pastore of Griff Harris and Marc Turnesa of Rockville Centre, N.Y. For awhile Pastore put himself in position for a shot at an 11-45th finish, getting to 4-under through four rounds with rounds of 74, 70, 70, and 68. Two straight rounds of even par kept him at 4-under and didn't allow him to gain any ground, and he finished in a tie for 64th. Turnesa fell to 5-over after three rounds, but was able to gain a little bit of ground. Rounds of 70, 71, and 70 would not be enough though, and he finished tied for 103rd. While both players didn't earn exemptions, they do have conditional status for the 2015 season.
