RUMSON, N.J. (August 8, 2014) - Rumson Junior Club Champion Chris Gotterup of Little Silver, N.J. will meet Brent Ito of Ardsley, N.Y. in the final match in the 46^th MGA/MetLife Boys Championship at Rumson Country Club. Gotterup’s home course advantage has come up big in all of his matches, but he takes on a very tough task against Ito, who has yet to trail in any match he has played.

Ito, heading into his junior year at Ardsley High School, has lost just two holes in the three matches he has played so far. He won his first match 6 & 5, his second 5 & 4, and his semifinal match over Andrew Purse of Greenwich, Conn., 4 & 3.  “I was just hitting the iron shots really well today even with the windy conditions,” the 15-year-old said. Ito wants to just keep doing what he has been doing heading into the final. “I just want to keep it straight and putt well,” he said. Although Gotterup has the lay of the land, Ito isn’t worried about that as a factor in their match. “It’s all about how well you play, “ he said, “Whoever plays better will win.” Ito has been in the leading position throughout the tournament, but he won’t get down on himself if he trails at any point. “It won’t bother me at all, I can easily come back,” Ito said.

Gotterup trailed early in his match against Erik Stauderman of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., going 2-down after two holes. But a birdie on the third got the soon to be sophomore at Christian Brothers Academy going and he never looked back. “I started off poorly,” Gotterup said. “Made the birdie on three and got the driver going and that really helped. Playing out of the fairway here is a lot easier then the rough.” Gotterup knows he is facing a great player, but like Ito, he feels confident in himself and his game.
