Wilson and Oswald win the 50th MGA/WMGA Mixed Pinehurst Championship Presented by The Landings

HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. (September 10, 2013) – Two former St. John’s University golfers Pat Wilson and Ellen Oswald teamed up today to win the 50th MGA/WMGA Mixed Pinehurst Championship Presented by The Landings at The Saint Andrew’s Golf Club. Panther Valley’s Wilson, the 2013 Met Amateur champion, and Westchester’s Oswald, the 2013 WMGA Match Play and Stroke Play champion, shot a 5-under 66 to win the championship by one stroke.

“Pat made a great putt on our last hole (the par-5 9th) to help us get to 5-under, that really helped us out,” Oswald said. This is the first time that the Red Storm golfers have partnered together in an event.

“The course was great for this kind of format, it made the day really fun,” Wilson claimed. Both Wilson and Oswald are frequent MGA and WMGA competitors, but this is the first time that either of them played in the Mixed Pinehurst.

In the Mixed Pinehurst format, partners both drive from the tee and then each play a second shot with the other’s ball. After that second shot, a choice is made regarding which ball to complete the hole with.

Husband wife duo Keith and Allison Kucinski of Tuxedo finished as the runner-up team with a 4-under 67, just one stroke behind the winning team. Sleepy Hollow's Mother and Son Team, Cameron Young and Barbara Jones, took third with a 3-under 68.

The Net Division winners were Peter Rymer and Jane Linn of Hamilton Farm with a net score of 8-under 63.

In the Professional Division,  Peter Chin of Oak Hills and Jenny Baek of Randalls Island finished first with a score of 2-over 73. Jerry Courville Jr. of Shorehaven and his partner Jo Rasmussen of Longshore were second with a 3-over 74.

Sean Wolf of Mohansic and Carla Wasienko of Sleepy Hollow finished first in the Pro-Pro Division with a 1-over 72.

The MGA/WMGA Mixed Pinehurst Presented by The Landings is open to men with a Handicap Index not exceeding 14.0 and women with a Handicap Index of 18.0 or lower. The Saint Andrew’s Golf Club, celebrating its 125th year in 2013, played to a par 36-35-71 at 6,166 yards for the men and 5, 207 yards for the women.
