11 Players Advance Through Final Met Am SQR
PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y. (July 9, 2013) – Dan Goldstein of Wheatley Hills, Ross Hoffman of Lake Success and Steven Tarulli of Hempstead shared medalist honors Tuesday with even-par 70s at the final Met Amateur sectional qualifying round held at Sands Point Golf Club in Port Washington, N.Y.
A field of 156 players competed for only seven qualifying spots plus ties in steamy conditions on Long Island. Eleven total players were able to punch their tickets to the 111th Met Amateur Championship, which will be hosted by the Stanwich Club beginning August 1.
Daniel Gordon of North Hempstead and Kurt Brey of Bethpage finished Tied for fourth with rounds of 1-over 71.
Six players tied for sixth with 2-over 72s including Colby Anderson of North Shore, Cody Lee of Patterson, Rodean Minto of MGA eClub – CT, Matthew Yun of Douglaston, Matthew Hirsh of Woodmere and Michael Cochrane of MGA eClub – CT.
This was the final of five Met Amateur qualifying rounds. The championship, which consists of 36-hole stroke play qualifying followed by match play, is one of the most difficult MGA championships to qualify for.
It is open to all amateurs who belong to a Met Area club and have a Handicap Index not exceeding 5.0.
