Olsen & Hamberger Win 20th MGA Senior Net Four-Ball Tournament
BASKING RIDGE, N.J. (May 14, 2012) – Alley Olsen and Bill Hamberger of Blue Hill Golf Association fired a 10-under 62 to win the 20th MGA Senior Net Four-Ball Tournament at New Jersey National Golf Club in Basking Ridge, N.J. Olsen and Hamberger were one of five teams that came in with 62, but won due to the tie breaker that goes to the team with the greater total age.
A steady rain throughout the morning and afternoon made for difficult scoring conditions as many of the teams were unable to put together complete rounds. The course, a par 72 that played 6,260 yards, was guarded by thick rough which got heavier as the day wore on.
Raymond Okurowski and Paul Moran of Cherry Creek Golf Links also shot a 62 and placed second; Jon Silverberg and Kevin Huggard of Nassau Players Club (62) placed third; and Richard Burton and Ted Walters of Malverne Golf Association (62) placed fourth.
The team of Richard Lopiccolo of Bethpage and James Saporito of MGA eClub Long Island won the low gross category with a score of 1-under 71.
The event is open to all male amateur golfers who have reached 50 years of age by March 14, 2012 and maintain a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 18.0.
