Jeff Holzschuh Elected as 61st MGA President
HARRISON, N.Y. (December 6, 2012)– Jeffrey R. Holzschuh was elected to a one-year term as president of the Metropolitan Golf Association at the Association’s 115th Annual Meeting on Wednesday, December 5 at Westchester Country Club in Harrison, N.Y. Holzschuh, a member of Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, N.Y., and the Stanwich Club in Greenwich, Conn., is the MGA’s 61st president. He will head the 22-member Executive Committee and serve as chairman of the Association’s charitable Foundation.
Holzschuh, 52, began his relationship with the MGA in 1992 when he joined the Long-Range Planning Committee. He was invited to join the MGA Executive Committee in 1999 and served as treasurer in 2007 and 2008, secretary in 2009 and 2010 and vice president since 2011. Jeff has also been on the Board of Directors for the MGA Foundation since 1998.
His goals as president include exploring and expanding member services to both clubs and individuals, broadening the use of technology to communicate the MGA message, and expanding partnerships and resources to further grow the MGA Foundation and First Tee initiatives. He succeeds Gene M. Bernstein, who served two consecutive terms as MGA president from 2011-‘12.
Also elected at the MGA Annual Meeting were Stephen F. Boyd of Baltusrol Golf Club as Vice President, Michael J. Sullivan of Garden City Country Club as Treasurer and Tod D. Pike of the Apawamis Club as Secretary. In addition, the MGA’s 22-member Executive Committee added one newly elected member, J. Stephen Worth of The Creek.
“I am honored and excited to become president of the MGA,” said Holzschuh. “Golf has been an important part of my life and has provided me with countless memorable experiences. This role is a great way to give back to the game and to help the MGA continue its unparalleled tradition of serving the clubs and golfers of the metropolitan area, and I am eager to work with my fellow Executive Committee members to achieve our goals.”
Besides his work as a volunteer, Holzschuh also has an impressive record as a player. He qualified for and competed in the 2011 U.S. Mid-Amateur at Shadow Hawk Golf Club in Houston, Texas, and the 2011 Met Amateur at the Piping Rock Club in Locust Valley, N.Y. This year, he finished 14th in the MGA Mid-Amateur Championship at the Meadow Brook Club in Jericho, N.Y. He also won three consecutive club championships (2005-’07) at Laurel Valley Golf Club in Ligonier, Pa.
Holzschuh has worked at Morgan Stanley for the past 29 years and is the Chairman of Institutional Securities Group, which includes the Investment Banking, Capital Markets, Equity, Fixed Income and Commodities Divisions. During his career at the firm he has been actively involved in several prominent mergers and acquisitions, including the recent sale of Acushnet Company (Titleist). In addition, he is a member of Morgan Stanley’s Management Committee and serves as Chairman of the firm’s Global Power and Utility Group and Environmental Policy Committee. Since 1994, he has served on the United States Electricity Advisory Board and is a founding member of the U.S. Partnership for Renewable Energy Finance.
In addition his 20-year affiliation with the MGA, Holzschuh has had a number of important roles with other golf organizations, most notably the USGA. He is currently a member of the USGA Championship Committee and World Amateur Golf Rankings Committee, and recently served on the USGA President’s Council. He was also the co-chairman of golf relations for the 2002 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship, held at Stanwich, and was on the volunteer committee for the 2006 U.S. Open at Winged Foot. From 2002 to 2010, he was Pro-Am chairman of the PGA Tour’s Memorial Tournament, played at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio.
Outside of golf, Holzschuh serves as Chairman of the Board of his alma mater, Niagara University in Lewiston, N.Y. Holzschuh graduated from the school’s College of Business Administration in 1982 and was a four-year member of the basketball team.
