ELMSFORD, N.Y. (Dec. 20, 2012) - Familiar Met Area competitor Anthony Aloi of Plainsboro, N.J., is seeking to cap his impressive 2012 season off with a bang down in Coral Springs, Fla. The 22-year-old is currently T8 heading into the third round of the notable Dixie Amateur being contested at Heron Bay Golf Club. Aloi fired rounds of 69 and 70 (4-under) and is nine shots back of leader Daniel Berger. He'll look to join a list of winners that include Peter Uihlein, Brandt Snedeker, Len Mattiace, and Lanny Wadkins.

The Dixie Amateur is considered one of the "Majors of Amateur Golf" according to AmateurGolf.com. It's a 72-hole stroke play championship, with a cut coming after 54-holes (top 72 and ties advance to the final round).

Aloi, who captured the 2011 MGA Public Links Championship in a playoff over 2012 winner Eric LeFante, is currently a senior on the Furman University golf team. Also playing well is 2012 LIGA Amateur winner Tim Rosenhouse of Dix Hills, N.Y. Rosenhouse is T31 after rounds of 71 and 73 (even par). Ryan Couglin of Rye, N.Y., who qualified for this year's Ike at Atlantic, is T104 (plus-6) and will need a great round to stay around for the final 18.
