Volunteer for 2013 U.S. Women's Open
ELMSFORD, NY (April 30, 2012) - The United States Golf Association has opened registration for volunteers for the 2013 U.S. Women’s Open Championship at Sebonack Golf Club. This is the first time a major championship will be played at the prestigious Sebonack Golf Club located on Peconic Bay in Southampton, New York. Opened not too long ago in 2006, the course was designed by Jack Nicklaus and Tom Doak. Since its opening, Sebonack has become an instant classic and the course’s challenging layout accompanied by beautiful views of the bay have led it to be voted one of the top 100 courses to play in the country.
Next year’s U.S. Women’s Open Championship will be a first for Sebonack, but it will be the 68th year of the championship. Held from June 24-30, 2013, a field of 156 women will test out Sebonack’s course, ultimately vying through four rounds for one champion. Comprised of both professional and amateur players from both the U.S. and around the world, the championship promises to bring strong competition to the course.
The USGA has started looking for volunteers for the championship to ensure that the event runs smoothly. Around 2,500 volunteers are needed to serve on different committees, including marshals, transportation, leaderboards, and merchandise. Various choices of positions allow volunteers to be involved with different aspects of the tournament, as well as to be a part of the first major championship at Sebonack Golf Club. Before or after a scheduled shift, volunteer credentials also provide access to watch the players throughout all rounds. Interested volunteers may apply online at www.2013uswomensopen.com, and the website explains more specifics about each volunteer committee and position.
