Three participants from The First Tee of Metropolitan New York are in the field at the Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach, an official Champions Tour event that to be played from July 8-10 and televised nationally on Golf Channel. The First Tee Open at Pebble Beach is a 54-hole golf event that features 78 Champions Tour players and 78 junior golfers ages 15-18.
As one the largest and most successful First Tee chapters in the U.S., FTMNY is well-represented at Pebble Beach. Kyle Morris (left) of Deer Park, N.Y. will play alongside two-time PGA Tour winner Tommy Armour III, Kuriko Tsukiyama of Bogota, N.J. is paired with Robert Thompson, and Tyler McCaine (right) of Mount Vernon, N.Y. will play with Mark Johnson.
The three teenagers were all selected through a process that evaluated playing ability and comprehension of the life skills and character education learned through their involvement with The First Tee. Tsukiyama represented the MGA/WMGA team at the 2010 French-American Challenge and is one of the top female junior players in New Jersey. McCaine and Morris are both MGA Foundation GOLFWORKS interns. All of these teens participate in First Tee programming at one of the Met Area’s six First Tee facilities.
Morris, Tsukiyama and McCaine are among 78 junior golfers and 156 amateurs being teamed with 78 Champions Tour players as they compete for the title at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Old Del Monte Golf Course. More than 250 First Tee participants applied to participate in the tournament.
