Instituted in 1951 with the Father & Son Championship and expanded in 1990 with the addition of a Net event, the MGA's Father & Son competitions have been some of the most exciting and fun events on the championship schedule. Aided by the Pinehurst format of play, which provides ample opportunities for contributions of each team member, these events combine the strong father and son bond with the opportunity to compete against some of the best family duos at some of the best Metropolitan Area courses.

The 61st MGA Father & Son Championship at Edgewood Country Club in River Vale, N.J. is a gross stroke-play event in which each team must have a combined handicap of 18.0 or less and one member of the team must have a handicap of 6.0 or less. Neither father nor son may have a Handicap Index that exceeds 18.0
