Inside the Rules
Every month former MGA Senior Director of Rules and Competitions Gene Westmoreland will answer one question posed by the readers of the MGA e-Revision Newsletter (click here to sign up). Gene recently received the following Rules question from a reader:
Q: In a two-man team match play scenario between players A/B and C/D, Player A is away in a greenside bunker and his partner Player B is on the green closest to the hole. Player A hits a bunker shot out of bounds – can team A/B still claim to be away with the ball not in play?
Gene responds: Since Player A’s only option will be to drop a ball as near as possible to the spot he played his previous shot and assuming he properly had the honor before hitting it OB, team A/B retains the honor. In this format, properly called four-ball, the team can have either player play when the team has the honor.
